Plantation drive at Pasighat
Pasighat, Jul 07: A mass tree plantation drive would be carried out in and around Pasighat township shortly involving students, public and government servants shortly.
A meeting to chalk out programmes for the tree plantion was convened by East Siang Deputy Commissioner in his office chamber today which was attended by officers of Forest, Urban Development, PWD, PHE departments, Town Planning etc.
The Deputy Commissioner suggested for conduct of essay writing, painting competitions etc among school children and public meetings to create awareness among them about the importance of planting trees. It was decided in the meeting that plantations would be carried out in the office complexes, quarters, market areas and near the bank of Siang river. All the school children would be shoulder responsibility to plant atleast a tree each.
Beside this, a sanitation drive will also be conducted up in and around the township, the DC said.
Bittem Darang, DFO (T) informed that most of the HODs of the district are taking up plantation in their respective office complex for which the Forest department is providing saplings. He assured to provide sufficient saplings for the plantation drive in the town. DIPRO
Toppers felicitated
ITANAGAR, Jul 07: The Tai Welfare Society (TWS) felicitated toppers of CBSE AISSE and AISSCE 2012 belonging to Tai clan at a function held at Chandni Hotel Naharlagun.
Mast. Soni Tani Tai (9.6), Miss Tai Mamu (9) and Mast. Tai Narba (8.8) topped the CBSE class Xth Exam 2012 while Mast. Tai David and Miss Tai Mani topped in class XIIth Science and Arts stream respectively.

Students asks officers to remain at posting place
ITANAGAR, Jul 07: All Mengio Students’ Union alleged that the administrative and other departmental officers of Mengio circle are not staying at their posting places after the visit of chief minister few months back.
The public and students are facing problems in administrative related matters as the CO is not staying at posting place, it said.

Organization demands shifting of conventional hall
ITANAGAR, Jul 07: Arunachal Pradesh Abo Tani Clans Youth Organisation has reiterated its demand for shifting the conventional hall from IG Park to a suitable location.
The organization said that it is not against the conventional hall and other developmental work of the state government. However, it opposes the construction of the conventional hall within IG Park which amounts to destroying the natural beauty and environment of capital town.
It further alleged that despite repeated appeals, the state government is adamant on the issue even though there is lots of government land available for construction of conventional hall in the capital complex.
It urged the state government to immediately cancel the ongoing construction work and shift the conventional hall to any other place within 15 days.
The organization threatened that it would launch 36 hrs government office shutter down and government vehicles chakka bandh, if their demands are not fulfilled within the stipulated time.

70 for information under RTI Act !
ITANAGAR, Jul 07: Save Mon Region Federation (SMRF) has alleged that application forms for seeking information under RTI are being sold at Rs 20 per form by some government departments and treasury Challan of Rs. 50 has to be deposited while submitting the application.
It further alleged that typed out and downloaded forms are not accepted.
The Forums also appealed to the State Government to reduce the fee for providing information under RTI from Rs. 10 per page to the approved rate.
Prohibitory order
ITANAGAR, Jul 07: Papum Pare district magistrate in an executive order under 144 Cr PC has prohibited carrying of lethal weapons, assembly of more than five persons, procession and meeting in and around Yupia township and adjourning villages. Anybody found violating this order shall be prosecuted as per the law, the order read. The magistrate further said that Papum Pare SP shall take all necessary action for strict adherence of the order.
“It has been made to appear to me that a number of persons are about to assemble in connection with a dispute between two groups in and around Yupia township and that such assembly is likely to lead to a riot or an affray and may create law and order situation in the vicinity,’ the district magistrate said in its prohibitory order.

Go Green campaign at Jairampur
ITANAGAR, Jul 07: Assam Rifles is observing “Go Green Fortnight Tree Plantation Drive” at Jairampur which started on July 1. The unit has collected 1500 saplings of various trees with the help of DFO Nampong Forest Division.
The plantation drive commenced with small children of Assam Rifles School, Jairampur on July 2 where a total of 80 saplings were planted by the students and teachers of the school.
The plantation drive was followed by a talk on importance of trees, maintenance of ecological balance and the environment to nurture ‘Planet Earth’ for future mankind.
In the series of the tree plantation drive approx 100 tree saplings were planted each day at various locations in the unit area by troops, families, children and representatives of civil administration.
Interaction meet of AYC
ITANAGAR, Jul 07: Coordination cum interaction meeting of AYC 32 Rumgong was held at Congress Bhawan Aalo today.
While interacting with the gathering, Tarut Pari, president of AYC 32 Rumgong Assembly Constituency asked the youths to remain united and work for further strengthening party organizations at grassroots level. Khanduma’s curse, Lovers and Witches in Eastern Himalayas
Lobsang Wangchu Bapu’s debute novel released
ITANAGAR, Jul 07: Khanduma’s curse, Lovers and Witches in Eastern Himalayas, the debut novel of Civil Servant Lobsang Wangchu Bapu was released this evening in Itanagar.
Releasing the book, celebrated author Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi expressed happiness that young people are taking up creative writing in the state. While encouraging the young writer, Thongchi said “do better than us”.
Thongchi said that Khanduma’s curse which has a very griping start is captivating.
Thongchi regaled the gathering with his childhood anecdotes relating to the existence of the Khandumas (witches).
A Zoology graduate from J N College Pasighat, Lobsang said that he always wanted to be a writer.
While terming the day very important, Lobsang said that he wrote the book five years ago while he was posted at Pangchau in Longding. Though, he saw some rejections by publishers, the book was lapped up by Wordweaves India.
Lobsang, a native of Morshing in West Kameng joined the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service in 2003 as a Circle Officer and is currently posted at Dirang.
Deputy Director SSA Rajya Mission, Ashok Tajo, while speaking at the occasion, termed Lobsang a rising star on the horizon. He said that writers have helped document the history, social ethos of the state.
Dr Dakto Gara, a childhood friend of the author hoped that the books despite the local settings would have a universal appeal. Among those present at the occasion were SSA state project Director P N Thungon, Director Sports and Youth Affairs D K Dinglow, Gynaecologist Leki Wangchu. Pasighat Gen Hospital cries for attention
ITANAGAR, Jul 07: The General Hospital Pasighat, one of the oldest hospitals in Arunachal Pradesh, is in a pathetic condition due to lack of proper health care facilities and unhygienic environment.
This was informed by East Siang unit of AdiSU, which along with members of other student Unions visited the hospital on July 3, in a release.
“All the Wards and Departments of the Hospital, including OPD, Laboratory, Medicine, Maternity, Eye, Surgical needs special attention of the higher authority, it said.
The cleanliness in and around the hospital is also not satisfactory. All the Wards, including Surgical, Medical, Maternity, Child, Female and Paying Cabins have an ugly looks with no proper cleaning. The toilets/bathrooms are in worst condition due to blockage. There is almost no drinking water facilities for patients in the hospital.
The water filters in the hospital have been damaged while the Surgical and Maternity rooms have developed cracks due to lack of maintenance, the release said.

The AdiSU unit also alleged irregularity among medical staff in the hospital. Even some medical officers go on leave without prior authorization, they alleged.
They also claimed to have found supply of low quality medicines and other equipments like hand gloves for which doctors are facing problems in prescribing Govt supplied medicines in the hospital, they said.
They further alleged non compliance with the guidelines of Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh (JSK) by the hospital authority while extending benefits to the mothers under the scheme.
Expressing serious concern over those problems, shortages and lack of proper healthcare facilities in the hospitals, AdiSU demanded the higher authority to address the problems of the hospital without any further delay.

Despite all odds, Dibang Valley’s spectacular success

ROING, Jul 07: Dibang Valley district is a region deeply troubled by factors causing despoiling of its civilization – remoteness, underdevelopment, drug addiction, suicides, poverty and poor governance.
These difficulties, however, do not make the people here pathetic, but has made them more stronger and determined. This year, five students from Dibang Valley achieved spectacular success in the Rajiv Gandhi University undergraduate examination.
They have now become an icon for those deprived with basic facilities for education, forcing the better ones to introspect.
Omila Migi is one among the achievers and is ranked 4th in his political science department. He comes from Ahi Valley, which is the most remote circle in Dibang Valley district. It takes two days by walk to reach his village Ayinso from Anelih circle headquarter, which is without road connectivity.
“Once I am in my village, there is no information of the outside world. Also no news about college, nothing,” he says.
“When I first went to school, I wore laawe (a loin cloth worn to cover the private parts). And I wore my first footwear when I was in class six. My mother died when I was young and father is ailing in poor health. Now I have to look after my younger brothers and sisters who are dependent on me,” he says.
Like many in this part of the world, Migi represents the first educated generation. So they have to look after the family as well, while they are still studying.
“I never compromised with my education despite the difficulties,” he says, “And the distraction caused by my engagement in student politics.” Migi had been an active student leader holding several posts in All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU).
Similar is the story of the other three achievers, Anjali Ekru, Giti Miuli and Gete Umbrey, all of whom are from Ahi valley. They secured 8th, 2nd and 4th positions in their respective departments of Geography, Management and Mathematics. The fifth topper is Yami Melo from Alinye village in Anini circle. She secured 6th position in her BA (Economics).

With launching of various allied schemes the duties and responsibilities of health functionaries right from AWW to director level have increased manifold, said Project CDPO S C Tok in his keynote address. He further said AWWs, being the ICDS functionary at grass root level, need to be very responsive. He cautioned the defaulters to face the consequences. Tok further called for proper use of equipments at various AWCs and inspection of the same at regular interval.
He has lamented that the despite repeated instruction to all AWWs/AWHs to disseminate information to all IGMSY beneficiaries of their respective area/villages to avail the benefit, the response seems to be very scanty. He asked the house to take effective measures for mass awareness on the IGMSY.
It is worth mentioning that IGMSY, a conditional maternity benefit scheme under the Union ministry of WCD, is being implemented in certain pockets of the country including certain ICDS Projects in Arunachal Pradesh.
The meeting concluded with the discussion on day to day practical works including growth monitoring amongst the AWWs, Fields Staff of the Project and resource persons from WCD Training Centre, Itanagar.

East Siang DC holds discussion on legal system
PASIGHAT, Jul 07: East Siang Deputy Commissioner R K Mishra had a meeting with the Public Prosecutors of Pasighat today.
During the meeting, the DC discussed various legal aspects and their working system and enquired about the number of cases assigned to each PP, their status and the success rates. He also enquired about the number of criminal and civil cases. During the meeting the relations of PPs with magistrate and police, improvement of the Juvenile Justice Court were also discussed.
Since PPs are court officers, they are to assist the court and guide the presiding officers properly, the DC said and assured to conduct another meeting to discuss various cases.
The Deputy Commissioner also assured that every effort would be taken to improve the judicial system and also proposed a workshop of the PPs, magistrates and Police to be held shortly. DIPRO
